Having trouble getting back to the gym after all the holiday festivities? Allow me to provide some motivation:

    • To work off the calories acquired from a single gingerbread cookie, you’ll need to swim 18 minutes.
    • How about a martini and some party mix? You’ll need to bike for 47 minutes to burn it off.
    • And the cost of slice of pumpkin pie? 81 minutes of walking.

    See you guys in class….

  • Rejoice! Your cell phone won’t kill you.

I remember seeing a report on the news once about a woman who died from a brain tumor, supposedly from her cell phone. The scary thing about it was that the tumor was in the shape of her phone’s antenna, on the side of her head where she used her phone.

Turns out this may have just been a coincidence. It appears that the cancer-causing effects of cell phones are weak at best.

“A massive study of just about every private cell phone user in Denmark shows no link between gabbing on your mobile and the development of brain tumors.”

This is good news for just about everyone I know, including myself.

  • Slow down and eat less

We’ve all heard the advice that it’s better to eat more slowly, presumably so the stomach gets a chance to register that it’s full. Strangely enough, however, this tip hasn’t had any scientific studies to back it up… until now. A study done on 30 women at the University of Rhode Island concluded that “the women felt fuller and more satisfied immediately after they ate the meal and an hour later when they had consumed it slowly.”

Thanks to Dave, a self-described fast eater, for the link.
